Now Hiring an Executive Director

Family Promise of Cape May County, a certified 501c3 nonprofit corporation registered in the State of NJ, is seeking an Executive Director to lead FPCMC to accomplish its Mission – “To keep homeless children and their families together during their time of crisis by providing safe shelter and meals and to provide support services needed to educate, encourage and empower these families in their quest to re-establish their individual pride and independence.”

The new Executive Director will inherit a successful organization with an experienced working Board and committed volunteers with strong community support. The ideal candidate will be passionate about and enthusiastically committed to our Mission and have a successful track record of working collaboratively with nonprofit boards, staff and volunteers from a variety of faith backgrounds. 


Essential qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of Cape May County
  • BA preferred and/or 3-5 years successful management experience in a nonprofit organization. 
  • Ability to work closely and collaboratively with others.
  • Excellent oral/public speaking and written communication skills
  • Ability to set goals and garner needed resources to accomplish those goals.
  • Successful fundraising results
  • Knowledge of homeless service provision models and programing, local, state and federal housing authorities, social service agencies and general assistance programs
  • Ability to work in collaboration with faith-based organizations in the community.
  • Can-do positive attitude
  • Flexible schedule
  • Skill in Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Ability to pass drug and criminal background checks.
  • Maturity, a sense of humor, compassion and empathy for our guests and an ability to relate to individuals from many different racial, ethnic religious and class backgrounds.
  • Executive Director reports to President of Board of Trustees.
  • Competitive salary (range $50 - $70k) benefits commensurate with experience, no relocation expenses.

Executive Director Requirements

Work Location: Based in Cape May County with travel required throughout Cape May County.

Supervision: The Director reports to the President of the Board of Trustees.

Position Objective:

This position will provide visionary and collaborative leadership to manage the evolution of programs, operations and funding created by the agency’s visibility and growth.  This position will coordinate and direct all programs for Family Promise of Cape May County (FPCMC).  The primary responsibility is to carry out the mission of the organization on a daily basis, abiding by the stated objectives of the Board, management for homeless families in our care as guests in our programs and coordination of all the program components of the Hospitality Network – volunteers, referring and supporting agencies, day center, hospitality houses and transportation – for the effective provision of services to homeless guests.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Administration and oversight of all of the components of the FPCMC program including, but not limited to guest family intake, management of day center staff operations, and overseeing Thrift Store operations along with Thrift Shop manager.
  • Work effectively with the Board of Trustees and contribute collaboratively to committee work as necessary. Attend monthly board meetings.
  • Provide the Board of Trustees and all of the board committees with information, guidance, and support that lead to the development and implementation of effective planning and policies.
  • Assist the Finance Committee in the development of annual operating budgets and management of operating expenses.
  • Develop and implement with Board input a plan for establishing/growing funding streams including grants/foundations.  This includes developing contacts with prospective donors and giving group presentations.
  • Oversee the collection and maintenance of donor information, and responsibility for donor acknowledgement.
  • Develop and maintain an effective and dedicated crew of volunteers.
  • Develop and implement plans to communicate regularly with FPCMC audiences (internal and external) via FPCMC’s website. Social media, newsletters, press releases and emails.
  • Oversee the content and design of all print and electronic communication material (consistent with the organization’s brand).
  • Promote an effective, high-visibility and positive public image of FPCMC and its mission. Represent FPCMC as its spokesperson in a professional manner with faith communities, community agencies/organizations, coalitions, individuals and the community-at-large in all relevant public and media venues and appearances.
  • Be on call for emergencies as needed...


Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, acceptable auto insurance coverage, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass criminal background check and drug test.
